The warmest wine region of Tasmania starts from close to Hobart right up the coast to the north. There are several emerging wineries worth watching out for here, with names like Gala Estate and McLean Bay emerging alongside familiar favourites like Freycinet Vineyard, Milton, and Spring Vale. You can combine your tastings with visits to delightful small towns like Bicheno and Triabunna, the Spring Bay Distillery, and areas of dramatic natural beauty like Coles Bay and Wineglass Bay. First opened in 2015, Devil’s Corner recently underwent a sparkling multi-million-dollar refurb that offers visitors the same fabulous views across vines, lagoons, and mountains, but also more room, hosted seated tastings and function facilities, as well as two on-site restaurants. There is now room to shelter from the frequently inclement weather, and increased indoor and outdoor seating. The Fishers restaurant provides tasty local seafood overseen by big-name chef Hugh Whitehouse, while at Tombolo, you’ll find made-to-order woodfired pizzas. There is often live music at weekends.
